Author Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in submitting your work for publication in one of Magna Publications’ 10 newsletters.

We welcome articles that discuss trends, present original research, and detail best practices in higher education. Although we do not accept pieces that attempt to market a product or service, we acknowledge the author’s institutional or professional affiliation. Editors may edit for length and clarity.

Accepted articles generally fall under – but are not limited to – these general topic areas:

  • risk management and liability
  • legal or social trends affecting higher education
  • complying with federal law
  • fundraising and budgeting
  • student recruitment, admissions, and enrollment
  • working with faculty
  • improving teaching and learning
  • student retention, success, and well-being
  • campus security and safety
  • administration in the higher education context
  • distance education.

Copyright: Articles should not have been registered for copyright or published elsewhere (either on paper or electronically) prior to publication in Magna newsletters. However, revisions and rewrites may be used under certain conditions. Typically, the author assigns all copyrights for the submitted work to Magna Publications, including print and electronic rights, unless other arrangements are made.

Source acknowledgement: Borrowed intellectual property should be duly acknowledged, either informally in text or in APA style.

Format: Articles may be submitted by mail, fax, or e-mail. Please submit electronic manuscripts in Word. Be sure to include contact information.

Reprinting: Articles published in Magna newsletters may be reprinted with permission from Magna Publications.

Length: Up to 1,200 words, but typically between 750-800 words.
Note: Teaching Professor submissions must fall within the 700 to 900 word range.

Style: Reports, essays, news stories, or scholarly articles are welcome. Limited tables, graphs, and references can be included. Due to the nature of newsletters, authors are encouraged to adopt a more practical and informal tone than is expected in academic journals.
