Margaret Barr, Ph.D.

Dr. Margaret J. Barr served as vice president for student affairs at Northwestern University from 1992 until she retired in 2000. She currently is professor emeritus in Northwestern’s School of Education and Social Policy. She previously served as vice chancellor for student affairs at Texas Christian University (1985-1992) and vice president for student affairs at Northern Illinois University (1982-1985).

She has been active in student affairs associations, serving as president of the NASPA Foundation Board and the 1983-1984 president of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). In addition to being the coauthor of Critical Issues in Student Affairs: Challenges and Opportunities, she is the author or editor of A Handbook for Student Affairs Administration, Student Services and the Law, and Developing Effective Student Service Programs with L. Keating.  In addition, she served as editor-in-chief of the monograph series New Directions for Student Services for 12 years.
