Teaching Defiance: A Dialogue

Audio Online Seminar • Tuesday, April 22, 2008 • 12:00 - 1:00 PM CDT • $174

As the title might indicate, Teaching Defiance isn’t the usual, run-of-the-mill, how-to-teach book. Author Michael Newman directs the award-winning book to “activist educators,” proposing that teachers in all disciplines and courses need to get students thinking about their ability to make choices. In a live, online interview with Maryellen Weimer, editor of The Teaching Professor newsletter, Newman will expand on his contention that students are not taught critical thinking or problem solving skills, and ask him to discuss his thoughts about how they should be taught. In addition, the interview will include time for audience questions and comments—an opportunity to enter the dialogue about this key issue.

The book on which the interview is based won the 2007 Cyril Houle Award for Outstanding Literature in Adult Education. Join us for the live, online discussion to hear insights from this author and get his feedback on topics of interest to your campus.
