Audio Online Seminar with Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro • Tuesday, September 22, 2009 • 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM CDT • $274
Online education today continues to develop at a rapid rate, and one area that has evolved right along with it has been the practice of online teaching.
Related to this, one especially significant development in recent years has been the emergence of specific teaching competencies. The potential list of competencies gathered from literature reviews, experience and expert interviews now number over 100, and these are helping to improve understanding of what is necessary to realize success in online teaching.
If you would like to have a better grasp of the competencies necessary for helping to elevate the quality of online instruction at your institution, you will want to make it a point to attend our new audio online seminar with Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro on Sept. 22. Presented by Dr. Larry Ragan, Online Instructor Success: What’s It Take? will cover the prioritization and ranking of more than 100 competencies for online teaching success as well as which competencies to target in assisting new instructors.
Dr. Ragan is the Director-Faculty for the World Campus at Pennsylvania State University, where he directs the design and development of a wide range of faculty development services and systems. He has worked in online educational design and delivery for more than 11 years and has taught a variety of online courses and faculty development programs. He has presented internationally on the topics of instructional design, multimedia development, faculty development issues and instructional design for distance education. His current areas of research include the articulation of strategies, techniques and methods that faculty can use to manage their online teaching workload and the definition of the core competencies required for online teaching success. He holds a B.S. degree in agricultural education, an M.Ed. degree in agricultural education and a Ph.D. in instructional systems, all from Penn State University.
By participating in this insightful, content-rich seminar, you will be able to:
• Suggest the application of the competency categories to the experience of the online instructor.
• Describe the six categories of competencies.
• Determine instructional strategies to assist online instructors in acquiring these skills.
• Develop measurement strategies for assessing the readiness of online instructors against the defined competencies.
• Describe a series of sample tasks within each of the six categories.
• Provide a rationale for the rank ordering of these categories.

As a seminar participant, you will be able to ask questions and to directly take advantage of Dr. Ragan’s extensive knowledge about online instruction. In addition, you will be encouraged to provide input on the rationale for the selection and ranking of competency categories, and you will be able to use polling tools to provide feedback on questions regarding the importance of each category. This is a superb opportunity for anyone interested in gaining an understanding of the necessary competencies for online teaching success.
Take advantage of the single, low fee and invite others to attend to maximize your investment!
This seminar is just $274 per site, which allows you to sign on from a classroom or conference facility and invite others from your campus to attend–all for the same low fee. As a result, it’s a terrific way to share ideas and approaches on how to improve online education at your school by learning about the specific competencies that have shown to result in online teaching success.
What’s more, by participating in this seminar online at your campus you can make your budget dollars work harder for you.
