Can you recognize a potentially dangerous student in your class?
Do you know when a minor classroom disruption might foreshadow a larger threat to the entire campus community?
With training, faculty members can learn to spot aggressive behavior and respond appropriately in order to stabilize a risky situation and safeguard the community.
The need to manage aggression among college students has never been more intense.
Increasingly troubled students are showing up on campus and bringing more challenging behaviors into the classroom with them.
Too often, college officials adopt a reactionary approach, putting procedures in place to deal with a dangerous situation after it has occurred. Unfortunately, Crisis Management does not prevent aggression.
What is needed is a greater focus on defusing violence and escalating crises before they happen.
In Identifying and Managing Classroom Aggression and Violence, Dr. Brian Van Brunt and Dr. Perry C. Francis will train college faculty in how to identify and respond to aggressive behavior to help prevent the next campus tragedy from occurring.
This seminar will be led by an authorized Aggression Management Trainer and will address:
• Identifying markers for the trigger, escalation and crisis phases of aggression
• Threat assessment and conflict resolution
• How to recognize the physical and behavioral cues that accompany aggression
• The crucial difference between “primal” and “cognitive” aggressors
• Using emotional weighting, verbal manipulation and pacing with the aggressor
• How to detect when you’re being deceived
• Using persuasion and trust as communication tools
• Ways to escape an at-risk situation before it becomes a crisis
• Effective ways to deal with classroom disruption
• And more
