Christopher Knapper has been a professional educational developer for 30 years, and has worked in centers all over the world. He was founding president of the Canadian-based Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, which in 2002 created the Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award in his honor. He has written many books and articles on teaching and learning in higher education and served for eight years as co-editor of the International Journal for Academic Development. He was also one of the originators of the teaching portfolio concept. Christopher currently works as an international consultant for universities in Canada and elsewhere, most recently with Sergio Piccinin at the University of Oxford for a study on leadership of teaching in university departments.

Sergio Piccinin, psychologist and university professor, served for 14 years as director of the University of Ottawa’s teaching centre. For more than 22 years he has been a staff member conducting the Faculty Development Summer Institute at the University of Prince Edward Island, now in its 24th year, and one of the longest-running programs of its kind in North America. He is the author of a number of publications on teaching and learning in higher education. In addition, he has given multi-day seminars and served as a consultant on teaching and learning at numerous universities on four continents. Sergio continues to work as a consultant in Canada and internationally, most recently as senior research fellow associate for a 15-month project on academic department leadership for the University of Oxford.
