90-Minute Recording of a Video Online Seminar • Originally Broadcast September 9, 2009 • $229

The number of undocumented students who are graduating from U.S. high schools with hopes of attaining a college education is increasing. The fact of this development is raising a number of questions in higher education circles, such as:

• What is an “undocumented” student?

• What do I need to know about limits on admission or financial aid for undocumented students when I’m at a new student orientation or recruiting event?

• What am I legally allowed to ask potential students about their citizenship status when conducting college recruiting visits?

If you are interested in learning about the answers to these questions, as well as about other topics regarding these students including how to remove admissions and financial aid obstacles to help them achieve their educational goals, you will definitely want to purchase this seminar CD. Presented by Saundra Schuster, Admitting Undocumented Students: 15 Frequently Asked Questions will provide you with expert advice and insights on how to effectively support these students in their quest for a college education.

Schuster is a partner with the National Center for Higher Education Risk Management. Previously, she served as General Counsel for Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, and before that was Senior Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio in the Higher Education Section and Associate General Counsel for the University of Toledo. Before practicing law, she served as the Associate Dean of Students at The Ohio State University and has more than 25 years of experience in college administration and teaching. She frequently presents nationally on legal issues in higher education and holds master’s degrees in counseling and higher education administration from Miami University. She has completed coursework for her Ph.D. at The Ohio State University and has a juris doctorate degree from the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University.

• Better understand the effect of current and proposed federal laws on providing education and financial support for undocumented students.
• Have an increased understanding of policies in your state for state-based financial aid.
• Understand more fully the barriers that undocumented students face in seeking a college education.
• Be more knowledgeable on how to provide in-state tuition for undocumented students and about which states currently have standards for establishing in-state eligibility.
• Know how to counsel undocumented students to help them qualify for financial support.
• Be able to identify alternative sources of financial support for undocumented students, both within your community as well as through institutional foundation/scholarship funds.
