Law 101 for Faculty Members: How Not to Get Sued
Legal Advice For University Faculty
Faculty members are expected to know and adhere to a host of new legal mandates.
There are Title VII and Title IX issues of academic freedom and sexual harassment, FERPA- the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Just a few examples of legal requirements that are now constants in higher education.
Ignorance is not a valid defense in failure to comply with these legal expectations.
Without proper knowledge, faculty members can inadvertently open themselves and their institutions to costly and embarrassing challenges from students, parents, and even colleagues.
Even temporary adjuncts and distance education instructors can become embroiled in expensive faculty lawsuits when they lack the necessary legal training.
In this 90 minute presentation we provide faculty members with the necessary tools and information to understand the legal concerns that most commonly impact academia and how to prevent the litigation that can arise from them.
