Program-level Student Recruitment and Retention Strategies

College Student Retention

It’s never been easy to recruit and retain top students.

The state of the economy has made the job even more difficult by reducing financial aid and limiting resources.

This doesn’t mean there aren’t exceptional students who will eagerly attend your school. It’s just that now, more than ever, you have to use the right retention and recruitment strategies to find them.

Discover what these strategies are and how they can work for your schoolLed by experienced recruitment and retention strategists Katherine Frank and Maureen Murphy, this seminar helps you:

  • Understand how to manage recruitment, conversion and retention on a large and small scale.
You’ll learn the strategies and best practices from other successful schools.
  • Combine your efforts with your institutional mission, initiatives, and goals.
Discover how to make your efforts cohesive with your department, faculty and school.
  • Use both immediate strategies and sustainable practices.
Assess your department’s needs, and pinpoint both your immediate concerns and your long-term goals.
  • Foster faculty involvement.
Create a cohesive effort that’s visible to your college and university, building your own department’s morale in the process.

This approach requires shared governance by your college and university, along with improved communication.  We provide you with the key strategic and tactical tools to make that working relationship a reality.

Key goals for this 75 minute seminar include learning how to:

  • Build relationships.  Use the right techniques to develop relationships between faculty and prospective students and their families.
  • Create tools.  Produce outcomes-base materials to improve department recruitment.
  • Communicate effectively.  Implement multiple and unique forms of communication for recruiting.
  • Assimilate best practices.  Use proven recruitment, conversion and retention methods.
  • Plan strategically.  Incorporate your plans into faculty development plans and other department activities.
  • Improve morale.  Position your initiatives so they’ll invigorate your department’s efforts.

Ultimately, you’re looking to grow.  Not only in terms of recruiting and retaining students, but also as a department.  You’ll find that these tools and strategies will carry through to the rest of your college and university, providing a cohesive strategic approach.
