Threat Assessment in the Campus Setting
Critical Threat Assessment Challenges
Colleges and universities nationwide have developed new means to respond to violent incidents on campus.
To their credit, they’re supplementing this reactive work with some very important proactive work of dentifying threatening behavior and intervening before it progresses to violence.
If you’re involved with behavioral intervention, you’ve likely already encountered a critical issue – namely, the lack of assessment tools specific and relevant to the campus environment.
Law-enforcement models have only limited applicability; predicting criminal behavior is not equivalent to predicting the behavior of troubled students.
To address the problem, we’re pleased to offer this seminar, co-sponsored by Magna Publications and the National Center for Higher Education Risk Management (NCHERM).
In this intensive, 90-minute program Brett A. Sokolow, J.D., and Dr. John D. Byrnes present a new model for behavioral assessment and intervention on campus.
Their model explains:
- Nine measures of aggression.
- The difference between cognitive and primal aggression.
- Four behavioral “D’s”: distress, disturbance, dysregulation and medical disability.
- How to measure risk –both mental health-related and generalized – using specific criteria.
- Specific intervention measures for each level of risk.
