What We're Doing Differently: Ideas from 4 Admissions Directors

Success Stories In College Admissions

Recruitment & Retention newsletterThe economic downturn has changed the admissions process in ways unimaginable just a few years ago.

As the rules change, institutions are forced to innovate and re-evaluate everything from financial aid to communication.

The climate demands creative solutions.

Four leading admissions professionals from across the country present this 90-minute seminar and share proven success stories and first-hand thoughts on areas of opportunity in the current market.

They tackle:

Economics: The changing economy directly affects the applicant pool. As students’ expectation of awards goes up, maintaining a diverse campus community gets more challenging. We offer potential theoretical framework for managing changes in the applicant pool as well as identifying sub-segments in order to help balance recruitment.

Beyond the Brochure: From applicants, to parents, to alumni, communication via the Web is not just important, it’s expected. In fact, tools like chats, blogs, Twitter, Virtual Advisor, and others can be great tools for admissions personnel. Learn how to fashion a strategy and tailor those tools to increase success.

Dollars and Sense: Financial aid has become the deciding factor for many applicants; all while an institution’s demand for revenue stays constant or increases. It puts admissions offices in the unenviable position of having to be conscious of both demands, while still forming a diverse campus community. We discuss how reconciling those pressures can be accomplished through better communication between enrollment management teams and financial aid offices.

Adding It Up: Under federal law, all institutions must provide a financial aid calculator by 2011. Implementation doesn’t need to be difficult, in fact many institutions use the calculator as a tool for recruiting. Discover the best strategies for developing a financial aid calculator, plus how it benefits potential applicants.
