Campus Safety 101:
An intensive, 6-part course for every member of your faculty, administration, and staff.
Campus tragedies like the one at Virginia Tech shake us to our core. But they also renew our resolve to prevent future incidents. Your own institution has surely redoubled its efforts to identify and help troubled students, and protect the greater campus community.
You know it requires teamwork. Any member of your faculty, administration or staff can be confronted with a troubled student — and so everyone has to be equipped with the knowledge and tools to respond appropriately.
Campus Safety 101 lets you provide consistent, comprehensive training, campus-wide. This 6-part online course, led by Brett Sokolow, J.D. and Scott Lewis, J.D., of the National Center for Higher Education Risk Management (link to presenter bios), focuses on "the four D's" of concerning behavior: distress-based, disturbed, dysregulated and medical disability-based behavior.
Participants will learn about how (and whether) to confront concerning behavior, when to refer troubled students (and to whom), and sound intervention strategies for a wide range of situations. They'll also hear about best practices, legal considerations, and the latest methods in use on campuses around the country.
