To begin with, we should discuss the terms "hard of hearing," "deaf," and "hearing impaired." According to Charles Trevino, who teaches interpreting for the deaf at North Harris College in Houston, Texas, deaf people prefer the first two terms, "deaf" or "hard of hearing," over the term "hearing impaired."
