Why The Summer Seems So Short

Major work on systems and networks and the distribution of replacement/upgrade computers have traditionally been slated as summer projects, when time and staff would be available, faculty and students not around, and the disruptions to services for those who remain, negligible. That all of these truths are actually false has never seemed to register; summer has always been the projects season.

Stephen sat in his chair, reflecting on the meeting he had just come from. His heart was still pounding wildly, and the thoughts going through his mind ranged from fear to anger to guilt to depression. How had things gotten so bad, he wondered.
