Working between Data Systems

The old debate between the merits of single-package enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems versus “best of breed” or other multipackage strategies is going into eclipse. All campus database-support departments are finding themselves devoting an increasing part of their time and talent to work between data systems. Even the most comprehensive ERP packages do not provide all the applications institutions need. And some of the functionality they do provide is offered more expertly by specialized products.
