Project Management for Higher Ed IT

Because IT projects are normal and familiar activities on campus today, they are scrutinized more closely than when they were a new phenomenon. Consciousness about the cost and quality of IT projects is now acute, even for sideline observers. Nobody wants the old adventure of IT software or infrastructure projects that seem to go on forever or turn out to be more difficult than anticipated. There is a higher standard now. Solid project management skills are imperative.

What Makes a Great CIO?

We recently asked a number of college and university presidents to tell us what qualities they look for in their CIOs, and what, in particular, constitutes “greatness.” Their answers gave us a glimpse into the presidential mindset and were very helpful in understanding why good CIOs are in such high demand. There is little question that the presidents want their CIOs to be leaders, and although their definitions of what constitutes leadership were quite diverse, there were clearly some common themes.
