Zones of Convergence: Library and Information Technology
By Thomas Warger
This is not about the organization of libraries or information technology organizations. Nor is it primarily about job descriptions or staff skills, although these are important when looking at the convergence of traditional library activities and those considered primarily computer related. There are fast-growing issues that call for both library and computing expertise. In some cases, the need is for the coordination of efforts, but in others, the solutions will need to be innovations that neither a library nor an information-technology outlook alone is likely to provide.

Eight Ways to Build Effective Campus Partnerships
By Linda Fleit
One of the keys to success for CIOs in higher education is their network of alliances and partnerships with other campus leaders. Through these relationships the CIO is in a much better position to meet the institutions objectives and to help lead the institution forward than by trying to go it alone. Just think, for example, about the onerous task of trying to justify additional staff for the IT department; unless there is a solid understanding among the budget deciders that the IT staff is there only to provide service to others, the CIO could well be seen simply as an empire builder.
