The Increasingly Pedagogical Role of Residence Life

The role played by residence life in the overall undergraduate experience has been studied extensively since at least the mid-1960s. Many early authors, such as Riker (1965), Thomson (1968), and Riker and DeCoster (1971), tended to focus on how a students residential experience improved his or her socialization, including increasing social awareness and providing experience in resolving interpersonal challenges.
