How to Manage Eating Disorders on Campus: A guide for resident assistants

College-aged students are at high risk to develop eating disorders (Mann et al., 1997; Stice, 1994; Fairburn & Beglin, 1990). According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (1994), eating disorders, most commonly anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, typically begin in late adolescence or early adulthood. Individuals can also struggle with other forms of disordered eating, binge-eating disorder, as well as others that do not fit the criteria for anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa.
