Coordinating Planning and Implementation of Strategic Initiatives
Units within higher education institutions are often characterized as having little knowledge or interest in what happens in other units or at the institutional level. There are many reasons to be critical of the silo mentality—it’s inefficient, it reduces the likelihood of constructive collaboration, and it hampers institutionwide planning and improvement efforts, among others. In recent years Butler Community College has tried to get away from this all-too-common institutional mind-set and bring about a collaborative, coordinated process for implementing its strategic initiatives.
