Redefining the Chair’s Role

In 2005 department chairs and program directors at Providence College were unhappy with their positions. The role had become mundane and task oriented and offered little professional satisfaction. This prompted the office of the vice president for academic affairs to begin an effort to change these positions, placing a greater emphasis on leadership.
