The Position Metric: An Instructional Resource Management Tool
The Position Metric was developed at Appalachian State University to enable the creation of workload models for academic units (departments and colleges/schools). The crucial and innovative component of the Position Metric is the immediate cost-differential feedback provided when changes are made on any of three variables: 1) the average credit-hour workload for a faculty member, 2) the workload ratio between tenure- and non-tenure-track faculty across level of instruction, and 3) the average class size across level of instruction.
