Mentoring Probationary Faculty
A new provost brought substantial changes to faculty evaluation standards for tenure and promotion, increasing the emphasis on scholarship for current and incoming new hires. Not only were faculty expected to publish more but also were told to find projects that would be “grant worthy.” In response, the faculty initiated an institution-wide mentoring program at our small, public, liberal arts undergraduate university.
