Blended Learning: The Answer for Access at UCF
The University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando is the second largest university in the United States. Its growth has been rapid-expanding from 21,000 in 1991 to nearly 60,000 today. Constructing physical classrooms quickly enough to keep pace has proven problematic, exacerbated by reduced state funding.By some estimates, the university is 40 percent short of classroom space. As a result, online learning has become a key strategy for fulfilling the school’s mission of educational access. Much of UCF’s recent initiative has been aimed at building up its blended course offerings. What has made blended learning loom large in UCF’s plans?
