Faculty Development: New Survey Offers Insights for Online Adjunct Training

Demand for online courses is increasing, and with it, demand for instructors to teach these students.  Often, this task falls to adjunct instructors.  “These changes in teaching roles result in a need to provide instructor training that is focused on teaching in online contexts,” write Julie Shattuck of Frederick Community College and Terry Anderson of Athabasca University.  The pair shares the results of “an inter-institutional training course that was designed particularly for adjunct faculty who were preparing to teach online.”
