Understanding Prior Learning Assessment: A Key to the Adult Student Market

Prior learning assessment is a hot topic in higher education today. With an emphasis on degree completion and adult learning, giving non-traditional students credit for their past learning is a critical part of helping these students achieve their goals.
According to Luke Dowden, Ed.D., director of the office of distance and electronic learning at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and executive director of the Center for Adult Learning in Louisiana (CALL), it is critical that universities understand what prior learning assessment (PLA) is, and what it is not.
