Changes in Population, Learner Market Affect US Higher Education Trends
Madison, Wis.January 31, 2008 The numerous social and economic changes affecting higher education make it hard to know which trends deserve our immediate attention, especially when creating a sound enrollment management strategy. But a new online seminar makes understanding and responding to the most important trends easier.
The trends are there but they may not affect all of us in the same way, says seminar presenter Marguerite J. Dennis, vice president of enrollment and international programs at Suffolk University in Boston. Its up to you to pick the one or two [trends] your institution could or should be tackling right now.
During her 60-minute presentation, Dennis reviewed data on 10 trends likely to shape enrollment in the next five years. She has been tracking, analyzing, and sharing information on higher education trends for several years. The presentation examines data on and the enrollment implications of:
population shifts
the growing adult learner market
increased emphasis on outcomes and assessment
changes in financing a college education
If you missed the live event, you can order the program in CD or transcript format, both of which include the presenters' handouts. You'll also receive a list of questions to ask when determining how your institution reacts to trends.
This seminar is the first in a three-part series on trends in higher education. During these seminars, Ms. Dennis addresses the current and upcoming developments in the United States, internationally and in community colleges.
