Online Course Templates Let Faculty Focus on Content
Madison, Wis.October 1, 2008 Bring efficiency and consistency to the development of your online classes with a campus-wide, best-practices-driven template that can be applied to every course.
A campus-wide course template can free your faculty to focus on course content, help your institution achieve uniform quality in course offerings and help your students spend more time learning, said Renee Cicchino, senior instructional designer, during her recent online seminar.
Benefits of using a template that she highlighted include:
A sample course structure for faculty who may not have taught or developed an online course before
Decreased course development time
A consistent learning environment for students
A sense of community for the distance learner
Cicchino also explained how to keep the quality high by using the Quality Matters rubric. I have found that the Quality Matters rubric is the most comprehensive and well-structured rubric to meet our student and faculty needs, said Cicchino. Quality Matters also provides training opportunities and literature as well as online support for using the rubric.
During this seminar, Cicchino provided a step-by-step explanation of how to create a template for your own campus.
If you missed the seminar and would like to purchase it for your institution, you can order the program in CD or print transcript format, both of which include the presenter's handouts.
