Effective Reporting: A Bridge Between Assessment and Practice
Madison, Wis.October 25 Simply conducting an assessment isnt enough. The results must be shared with the right people in the right way.
During the October 25 Magna Online Seminar Effective Reporting: A Bridge Between Assessment and Practice, Dr. Sherry A. Woosley, Ball State Universitys associate director of institutional effectiveness, and Amanda R. Knerr, The Pennsylvania State Universitys senior associate director of residence life, taught participants how to make sure their assessment results get into the right hands and actually make a difference in campus policy and practice.
Before you begin an assessment project, Woosley and Knerr said, you should answer the following questions:
What is the purpose of the assessment?
How can we use the results?
Who should know the results?
How should we format that information?
These questions might seem obvious, Woosley admitted, but often, we charge forward with assessment without a clear idea of what changes we hope to effect with the results. That leads to thick binders of data that simply gather dust on office shelves and never get used.
During the seminar, Woosley and Knerr shared three real-life examples of how assessment results can be shared effectively and appropriately. They also examined ethical issues that affect assessment results reporting.
