In 1969, Sangamon State University in Springfield, Ill. was founded with a mission to provide to provide upper division baccalaureate and master’s degree programs to a regional student body. This began to change in 1995 when Sangamon State became part of the University of Illinois system... The next step was to change UIS’s programs and campus culture to help the university achieve national visibility and reach. For this, UIS would turn to its online efforts to reach students across the country and around the globe.
