Faculty development for online instructors should focus on technology and pedagogy without being too much of a burden. The idea is to create an environment in which faculty develop basic skills in these two areas while encouraging experimentation, said Charles R. Harris, an educational leadership doctoral student at Arkansas State University and former instructional design coordinator at Troy State University.
