With an annual training and education budget of approximately $17 billion dollars, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is a major force in the development of cutting-edge learning technologies; its technical recommendations to software vendors have enormous influence. Through its Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative, the DoD is leading the way in developing a technical common language for elearning.
