It is tempting to comment that some days, fundraising is for the birds. At Ohio Wesleyan University, however, this is literally true, as for the past eight years OWU and zoology professor Jed Burtt have sponsored “Burtt’s Bird Count.” A single-day birdathon, the event allows alumni and interested contributors to sponsor Burtt and his fellow birders in a 24-hour hunt to see how many species they can identify. The result is a unique event that raises interest as well as money.
