GLBT Campus Matters

Challenging oppression with a gender rebel
By By Chicora Martin
I am hopeful. Not because I paid my taxes on time this year, or that a new presidential election is near. My hope does not come specifically because marriage might be a right available to all in the near future, and not because more and more people believe quality, affordable health care is a right we all deserve. I’m not saying that these are not reasons to be hopeful, but they are not where I find my greatest source of comfort and hope.

From the Editor
When this newsletter first came out two years ago, our main concern was campus safety for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students. Of that, about 10,000 students are in high schools in California. “We are consistently hearing that there is a burgeoning movement of GSAs on junior and high school levels” nationally, said Laub.

Opportunities for identity development in LGBTQA student leaders
By By Adrea L. Jaehnig
LGBT Resource Center professionals and others who work with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, ally (LGBTQA) students provide many opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, to grow and develop as individuals, and to develop their identity as a leader or activist.
