Distance Learning Services Affect Your On-Campus Students, Too
Many campuses keep services for on-campus students and services for distance education students separate, treating these two groups of learners as if they are completely distinct populations. However, an increasing number of “traditional” students mix on-campus and on-line courses, meaning that your institution’s distance learning services affect the success and satisfaction of on-campus students -- even residential students -- too, says Ed Klonoski, executive director of the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium.

Online ‘Agent’ Delivers Answers to Students
Giving students easily accessible, timely answers to their questions can be an important factor in student satisfaction. Websites and portals only partially succeed at this: Although they hold many of the answers students seek, students have to surf around to find them and often don’t find them at all.

Data on Spring Break Destinations
The top three spring break destinations probably sound familiar to you: Panama City Beach and Daytona Beach, Fla. and South Padre Island, Texas. In 2003, spring breakers spent about $1 billion in Florida and Texas alone, American Demographics reports. But the fourth most popular spot might come as a bit of a surprise.

New Student Orientation Trends
More new student orientation programs today stress intellectual as well as social connections through assigned readings, discussion groups, and closer interaction with faculty. Trends include summer reading assignments and community service projects. Whatever the approach, campuses are designing programs that reflect their individual characters. Community Colleges Recognized for Aiding Underserved Students
The City College of San Francisco and the Community College of Denver are the winners of the 2004 MetLife Foundation Community College Excellence Award, which recognizes community colleges for improving the education of underserved students.
