The Magna Publications, Inc. search engine uses most of the standard search techniques. Some of the most common that you might be interested in using are...

  • Search for exact phrases using quotation marks (" ")
    Typing "apple" or "sun" will find items with those exact words in sequence.
  • Use the minus sign (-) to narrow your search
    If you enter network -phone, that tells the search engine to include the word network but not phone. Don't forget - there's no space after the minus sign (e.g. -phone).
  • Use a wildcard (*) for multiple endings
    By typing an * (asterisk symbol) at the end of a word, you can search for items with multiple endings. For example: Microsoft W* would return items such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, etc.

    One word AND another Use space between words higher education
    Returns articles with the words higher and education in the story
    One word OR another (word 1,word 2)
    Attention: No spaces after the comma!    		 (higher,education)
    Returns all articles with the words higher or education in the story
    One word BUT NOT another -NotWord
    (minus symbol)
    Notice: No spaces after the minus sign!    		 higher -education
    Returns items containing the word higher and will reject all items containing the word education in the story
