Shooting Ourselves in the Foot

Despite the claims of the occasional faculty anarchist, colleges and universities do need administrators. Someone has to work behind the scenes to make sure that everything is in place so that students can learn, research can be performed, and the community can be served. If we must have administrators anyway, then we ought to train them how to do their jobs effectively, collegially, appropriately, helpfully, and at minimum cost.
