Sustaining Learning Community Success—After the Grant Has Run Out

With support from a Title III grant, educators at Lehigh Carbon Community College were able to get a good start on implementing learning communitiesólinked courses that explore common themes. Two models emerged from this work: the direct linked learning community in which two courses are scheduled back-to-back with a common theme and are taken by a cohort of students, and courses scheduled simultaneously that have several combined sessions. As the grant was nearing its end, the challenge became how to maintain the progress on this promising initiative.
