Wisconsin Starts Competency-Based Online Programs

The University of Wisconsin (UW) System is piloting what it hopes will become an array of degree and certificate programs for adult and nontraditional students using massive online open courses (MOOCs), among other resources. The programs will be self-paced and competency-based, allowing students to earn credit by demonstrating knowledge they have acquired through prior coursework, military training, on-the-job training, and other learning experiences, such as participation in MOOCs.
