The Problem of Online Scalability--and a Response

As an administrator, it is sometimes tempting to see online courses as the solution to a limited-space and increasing-enrollment problem.  After all, with no physical seats or fire codes to worry about, a class originally planned for 25 students can easily accommodate 40 or 50 enrollments. From a faculty perspective, however, the math is not quite so simple.
