Using Funding Incentives with Academic Departments

Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) began to develop their online program in 1996. Today they offer eight online graduate programs and eight undergraduate programs. Between 2007 and 2011, online hours at SPSU, as a percentage of all academic hours, have increased more than 250 percent. Credit hours generated from online  courses by semester have gone from just over 1000 in spring term 2006 to over 6000 in 2012. A key to the growth of the SPSU program is its process of providing incentives to the academic departments to partner with the online program in the development and quality control of new online courses.
