Online Accreditation Standards: A Review of US Accrediting Organizations
Institutions of higher education are accustomed to dealing with a number of regional and national accrediting agencies for the whole institution as well as for specific programs. Distance education adds an additional layer of complexity to these dealings. Online program administrators need a clear understanding of the different standards set out by the various agencies with oversight over their programs. In an article in the latest Online Journal of Distance Learning Administration, Suzanne Keil and Abbie Brown of East Carolina University detail findings from a review of distance education policy as it is reflected by several major accrediting organizations.
