“Burnout” is a term often used when referring to students who are experiencing academic fatigue. But it applies just as much to faculty who have been in the trenches for a while and can relate to the old adage of “same old, same old.”

Innovative professional development resources can keep faculty feeling fresh, excited, and challenged in their teaching.

Magna’s seven-week Enrichment for Mid-Career Faculty Online Course is complete, curated programming that’s specifically designed to re-energize mid-career teachers.

Through this excellent professional development course, participants receive 15 hours of Magna’s best digital programming along with unit assessments and an online discussion board where faculty can interact with peers enrolled in the same course.

After completing Enrichment for Mid-Career Faculty, educators will:

  • Be able to design courses that teach higher-order skills such as critical thinking
  • Understand how Universal Design for Learning impacts all students and aids retention
  • Employ creative ideas to refresh existing lectures and course content
  • Understand the role of OER in class, how to add appropriate content, and the impact it will have on students
  • Learn tactics for engaging a new kind of learner
  • Move beyond basic-level Bloom’s learning by applying brain-based learning techniques
  • Improve feedback and grading strategies
  • Gain useful insight from course evaluations
  • Consider methods to manage and reduce job-related stress

Approximately 15 hours to complete course.


Unit1: Course Design (3.5 hours to complete)

Unit 2: Classroom Climate (2.5 hours to complete)

Unit 3: Active and Engaged Students (2 hours to complete)

Unit 4: Higher-Order Thinking (2 hours to complete)

Unit 5: Assessment, Grading, and Feedback (2 hours to complete)

Unit 6: Continuous Improvement (2 hours to complete)


This course is designed for experienced educators looking to hone teaching skills and go further with content, engagement, and personal development:

  • Faculty and Instructors who have been teaching for five years or more
  • Department Chairs


  • At the start of the course, participants receive an email with information on accessing the online course
  • Participants can work through the course at their own pace. Participants can also review information in a previous unit as well as read supplemental materials and watch the accompanying videos as many times as they like within the session dates
  • Upon completion of each program, participants will take an assessment to gauge progress
  • A discussion board brings educators together for an enriching, national conversation about higher education
  • For the duration of the course, participants can use the discussion forum to interact with other participants nationwide and discuss the course content
  • At the end of the course, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion
