Time Management for Faculty and Students in Flipped Learning Environments

Time Management for Faculty and Students in Flipped Learning Environments

Wednesday, April 10, 2019 | 1:00 PM Central | 60 Minutes

Time management is crucial in any form of teaching, but especially so in a flipped learning environment. Instructors must plan and use time carefully when building a flipped course or converting a course from a traditional to a flipped model; students encounter new challenges with time management when the responsibility for learning new material is shifted to the pre-class space; and time has to be used wisely during the class meeting in order to tap into the maximum benefits of active learning. In this Magna Online Seminar, we’ll explore all of these facets of managing time and tasks to make teaching and learning in a flipped environment a transformative experience.

Learning Goals

Upon completion of this seminar, you’ll be able to:

  • Construct a long-term plan for building a flipped class

  • Use the flipped structure of a class to support maximized active learning during the face-to-face phase
  • Draft reasonable expectations for students regarding their use of time in a flipped environment
