Kate Sweeney

Kate Sweeney is an instructor at Columbia University and CUNYs Borough of Manhattan Community College where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in strategic communications, leadership, and public speaking. Her research interests include leadership and cross-cultural competency, and the impact of economic status on self-directed learning in adult students. Sweeney's interests in communication and culture were formed while spending over 12 years in the United States Army as a Chinese, Italian, and French linguist. She used her language and cross-cultural communication skills to work with embassies and diplomats worldwide and train Department of Defense military personnel in tactical and strategic leadership and communications skills. She holds a BS in International Relations and an MS in International Management from the University of Maryland. She is studying towards an EdD in adult learning and leadership from Columbia Universitys Teachers College.
