Gary Hafer

Gary R. Hafer is the John P. Graham Teaching Professor and a professor in English department at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA, where he teaches writing to students in all disciplines. His short studies on writing instruction have appeared in College English, Journal of Developmental Education, Teaching Professor, and Computers and Composition. In addition, Hafer is production design editor for Brilliant Corners, a journal of jazz and literature. He is the author of the book, Embracing Writing: Ways to Teach Reluctant Writers in Any College Course (Jossey-Bass, 2014), a guided approach to teaching course content through writing that also helps faculty develop their own professional writing projects. He is also a contributing writer to Faculty Focus, an online newsletter from Magna Publications that reaches more than 125,000 higher education faculty weekly.

He has been a member of the board of advisors for the Teaching Professor Conferences (2013-2015) and was awarded the Constance Cupp Plankenhorn Alumni Award for Faculty Excellence in 2010. Also in 2010, he earned the Award for Exemplary Teaching from the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
