Melinda Hohman
Melinda Hohman is the director and professor at the School of Social Work, San Diego State University. She teaches courses in substance abuse treatment, motivational interviewing, and social work practice. Hohman has been a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) since 1999 and has trained community social workers, child welfare workers, probation officers, and addiction counselors in motivational interviewing in a wide variety of settings. She recently was the project director of Cal-METRO, an MI training project for California Department of Corrections/Division of Juvenile Justice. Hohman's 2012 book, Motivational Interviewing in Social Work Practice, demonstrates and applies motivational interviewing to work with both adults and adolescents, in individual, and group settings. She has also published numerous research studies on the use of MI and the teaching of it.
Hohman earned a PhD in social work from Arizona State University and an MSW from the University of Pittsburgh.
